My horrible day...and the relieving conclusion

Yesterday, I went to the "convenient care" clinic closest to our house for the illness-of-death I've had for pretty much forever. Let's just say it currently involved coughing, sore throat, blood, and all other kinds of fun stuff. When I got there, the clinic was overflowing (literally...people were just sitting in the hallway outside) with sick, coughing people. The receptionist told me it would be two hours before I could see a doctor. So much for convenient, eh?

So, I drove to another clinic about 20 minutes away; there was no wait there, so I was able to see a doctor very quickly. Apparently for anyone coming in with my symptoms, they are required procedurally to do a chest x-ray, so we took care of that. (I'm pretty sure I saw our bank account crying in the corner.) All that for the doctor to tell me I have bronchitis and no medicine will help me (which I already knew, thanks to my ineffective 4th round of antibiotics). His advice? Don't talk for two weeks. At the very least, don't raise my voice and whisper as much as possible. Mmmmkay...anyone want to tell me how that fits with being a teacher? (Really, though, my kids have been very patient and helpful since I lost my voice.)

When I left, I went back out into the parking lot and started my car. It made very weird sounds and shook a lot and then died. I was able to start it again but only got about 100 feet before it died for good. I called AAA and waited about an hour for a tow truck to come. Wesley came to pick me up so we could follow the tow truck.

The first place we went to drop it off had all their gates locked. I know it was Sunday night, but how am I supposed to get my car serviced when your service entrance is all shut down?

So...we decided to pay the extra $3.50 a mile and have it taken somewhere with open gates and a dropbox for keys. On the way there, the tow truck got PULLED OVER by the POLICE. Now, poor Wesley has a midterm the next day, and we're just sitting there while the officer takes his sweet time writing up a whole bunch of tickets. He won't even let the driver move our car out of traffic and into a parking lot. Apparently, the driver didn't have all the correct lights functioning on his truck.

After the officer left, we sat on the side of the road, kind of confused about what was happening, and finally the driver came to talk to us. He said he had to wait for another truck and driver to come and tow our car. He was also incredibly angry at the police officer and called him some nasty names. The driver goes back to his truck and talks to his boss on his cell phone. When he walks over to our car again, he has some good/bad news. The bad news? It will take the new truck 2 hours to arrive. The good news? They are going to tow it for free, and we can go home; they'll just drop the car off and leave the keys.

This morning, I called the service place to tell them what was wrong with the car. "What car?" they ask. WHAT CAR? They said no cars had been dropped off. At this point, I am freaking out...did the angry tow man flip out and steal my car? Did he take it to some other random service place? How am I going to figure out where my car is?

After many calls to the dealership and the towing company, my car was finally found. It took them no time to fix it (just needed a new battery). My students loved the story when I told it to them. (They like real stories in Spanish much better than made-up ones.) So...today it's funny, now that I know where my car is, but yesterday was indeed a HORRIBLE day. :)

Snow Day

For some ridiculous reason, we have a snow day today.

There is no snow on the ground.

But there's no way I'm going to question this excellent fortune!

*Edit* I just checked the weather report, and by 6 pm we're supposed to have a foot of snow. Ah, now it makes more sense.
